The Pescarolo Peugeot did not make it through the night, but Peugeot are hanging on

The night at Le Mans lived up to its reputation and took a casualty in the early hours of the morning. The #17 Peugeot 908 Hdi FAP with Benoît Tréluyer at the wheel went off in a massive crash at la Chapelle. As far as the works Peugeots are concerned, there are no problems to report, the #8 car is covering for the leading #9 car. The #7 car has run into trouble several times, but has also been lapping very fast. Audi aren't relieving the pressure either, but the #1 R15 TDI suffered engine temperature problems, and although it is still a serious contender for victory, it is two laps down from the leader. Two Safety Car periods occurred during the night, the first one lasting 44 minutes, the second one 37 minutes, because of the #17 car accident, oil on the track, and the #80 Flying Lizard Porsche 911 GT3 RSR accident. Two thirds into the race, 41 cars are still running.
